Crochet blanket: part one

So the past couple of weeks have been quite hectic for me, from presenting my dissertation talk to going to Blackpool to see the illuminations I haven't quite had the time to be crafty. However, one of the major projects I am working on is a crocheted blanket. I got the pattern off a page on facebook called my craft life (My craft life - rainbow blanket) anyway basically it is a granny stripe pattern so it is simple but an effective design as you can see by my pictures =)

Crochet tutorial: how to do a treble stitch

The main stitch needed for this project is called the treble, to do this:

1. Yarn over the crochet hook

2. Insert hook into 2nd chain from hook (1st row) / space between granny clusters

3. Yarn over and pull loop through there should be three loops on the hook

4. Yarn over and pull through two stitches - there should now be two loops

5. Yarn over and pull through - this completes the treble

A granny clusters refers to three trebles on one chain/space

Some smaller projects I have been working on/ completed include a small bottle necklace as well as dinosaur doughnuts!!!

Hopefully I can get this done before Christmas!

Long time... Major update!

So, I've been away for a while... *insert generic excuse* I'm not sorry, I've had other things to do and right now this isn't my main priority. However it is part of my procrastination. So nothing has changed since my first post...
I've now started third year and my dissertation is biting at my ankles. Right now, I feel I can't be as crafty as I would like and my project list is relatively small right now.

However I still have been doing my thing, baking, knitting drawing as you can see below.

Dinosaur cakes!!! nom nom nom

I love my little leg warmer (still need to complete this)

Guinness cake- BEST cake ever!!!!!

I'm sorry for being blunt.
Much love

The dress

Heya, so today I finally finished the main part of the dress, all i need to do now is to add a few details like ruffles around the neck line ect but here it is; only one photo so far but shall try to add more tomorrow.

For details on how to make the skirt part I got the guide from;

Mullet Skirt (Fishtail Hem) DIY x2 | Tasha Delrae

The top part I didn''t get a tutorial, however based it around a simple vest top taking in the sides and created a pleated back, which will be shown in other photos.

The dress is actually in two parts so I can use the skirt with different tops.

But here we go, first finished project of 2013. Ta dah!

I wish I had more time...

Like the majority of the student world, I procrastinate. For example I should be revising for my impending doom exams, however I'm sat here trying to make an excuse to why I haven't actually done anything with this blog since its creation. But in my defense, aka here's my excuse, I have been busy with coursework deadlines, the whole Christmas shindig, and trying to find my focus. Yesterday I hit a new low in procrastination, I decided turning an orange inside out. Yes, that is way more productive than actually putting my head down and getting on with revision. Throughout this yuletide season I have actually have started a few projects;

  • I started a dress - the skirt part of the dress is finished (YAY!) and I shall upload photos asap
  • Paintings, I started on two both related to New York. One of which is to be for my mother and the other for myself, after all I'm a selfish swine like that.
And my goals for 2013?
  • COMPLETE a project - dress should easily be finished within the next week or so (I hope anyway)
  • Start and finish a quilt.
  • Finish off a painting
  • Upload photos!
Talking of photos, I've recently became despondent with Instagram, I have to admit it was because of the whole change of terms and conditions. Before people hate on the whole program, I'm just going to say I liked the idea that you can take something that is crap and give it a lick of life to make it slightly less crap. The way people talk about how it is an insult to photographers, I'm sorry but who the eff are you to tell people that they cannot take photos and more importantly, whether they should edit their photos or not. Rant over.

But yes, I hope whoever reads this has had a good new year and will be prosperous in whatever adventures they undertake.

A tidbit of my day.

Sums up my life at this present time. One and a bit modules all within a pile of books, completely different to one another yet at the same time both challenging and interesting.

The start of something beautiful

Every great story has a beginning right? Well, maybe this isn't so much as a story, more like a journey. For me it is a journey into expressing my ideas, freeing up my mind and thoughts. Collecting them like love letters,  distributing them like sweets. The whole point of this blog is for me to show off my creative side. To put forth images of my art work, whether it be the traditional art like paintings or even the more craft like art forms through knitting. This blog allows me to show off me. What I enjoy, and of course there shall be cake involved at some point too. This post is short and sweet, but the best things in life always are.

Much Love
Kim
